Ripley County Courthouse in Versailles, Indiana
Built in 1861, the Ripley County Courthouse in Versailles, Indiana is still a commanding presence over the quaint downtown.
Surrounded by trees and green, green grass, the golden clock tower (added in memorial in the 1930′s) certainly stands out and demands attention!

This Greek Revival styled Indiana courthouse is a lovely building.
There’s more than pretty landscaping on the outside! You’ll find an impressive war memorial. Sleek and shiny, it pays tribute to the military veterans of Ripley County.

But inside the Ripley County Courthouse you will find a well-kept building with a unique attraction!
There’s a tree in here! No, it’s not a different take on the Greensburg, Indiana courthouse tree, but a wooden tree featuring people and places that have made Ripley County what it is today.
It’s the well-known and loved town landmarks like Tyson Temple, Busching Covered Bridge, and Weberding’s Woodcarving Shop (all of which can be found on little Indiana if you browse the Versailles, Indiana category).
It’s the people: Miriam Mason, James Tyson, and Barbara Fox. Town history makes an appearance with the early settlers and Native Americans, the Hanging Tree, Pompeii’s Pillar, and the Carnegie Library. There’s many, many names and places.
