Eli Wallach, star of stage and screen, has passed away at the age of 98. More recently seen in films like Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and The Holiday, Wallach has a career in film that spans almost 60 years. Though, it wasn’t really until his roles in films like The Magnificent Seven, The Misfits, and How The West Was One that Wallach’s career really took off. In 2011, after having never been nominated for an Academy Award, he was awarded an honorary Oscar for his lasting presence. In 1967 he won an Emmy for Poppies Are Also Flowers. He also was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001 for The Complete Shakespeare Sonnets in the Spoken Word category. Yet, the EGOT eluded him.
Probably best remembered for his role as Tuco in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Wallach was one of the last of a different era of cinema. He had shared the stage with Steve McQueen, Marilyn Monroe, and Peter O’Toole. Truly, the last of a generation.
