Out of all the Van Halen songs out there (and we know there are a lot of them), this one has always felt the most familiar to me. I can actually remember hearing it as a kid. And everytime I hear it again, I’m so close to figuring out why/how I know it so well but then it’s gone. Maybe it was on a tv show, maybe someone told me about it, maybe both? Who knows.
Right Now was released in February of 1991 from the band’s ninth studio album, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. The lyrics describe living for the moment and not being afraid of change. Frontman Sammy Hagar once stated that they were the best lyrics he ever wrote for a Van Halen song. It won them video of the year at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Unfortunately, it didn’t do too well on the Hot 100, charting at #55.
Don’t wanna wait ’til tomorrow. Why put it off another day? One by one, little problems build up and stand in our way…
