This charming, breezy single from stadium giants U2 was released exactly 20 years ago today on 19 October 1998, reaching number 3 in the UK singles charts. The original version of 'Sweetest Thing' was a B side to the 1987 single 'Where The Streets Have No Name', and this re-recording was released on their compilation album 'The Best Of 1980-1990'.

The song was reportedly written by Bono as an apology to his wife Ali Hewson for having to work in the studio on her birthday during The Joshua Tree sessions
