Here's an interesting one. I heard this a while ago on a mix compilation put together by James Pants, entitled 'The Electric Finger: Book 2', and subsequently had a listen to the album that it was originally featured on, the soundtrack to Flavio Mogherini's 1977 movie 'La ragazza dal pigiama giallo' (Italian for The Girl in the Yellow Pyjama). Riz Ortolani was an Italian film music composer whose career spanned over 65 years. He scored films including 'Mondo Cane' and the infamous 'Cannibal Holocaust', while his music has been re-used by Quentin Tarantino in 'Kill Bill', 'Django Unchained' and 'Inglorious Basterds'. In the early 1950s Ortolani was founder and member of a well-known Italian jazz band, and in the 60s wrote his first score 'Mondo Cane', whose main title-song 'More' earned him a Grammy. Ortolani scored all or parts of over 200 films, and also played in classical orchestras, conducted dance bands and even wrote ballets. He died earlier this year on January 23, aged 87.
Although the rest of the 'La ragazza dal pigiama giallo' score is sometimes calming, sometimes jazzy, a little bit disco and often typical of the era, the rather odd and ahead-of-its-time 'Il Corpo Di Linda' is a fascinating glimpse into the future. With its proto-techno sounds, it's almost house music many years before house music existed...
