Dead Sky Morning was my favorite in the series so far. It was action packed, scary, and the characters were a lot better. I finally feel like I enjoy the series and am at the point where I can recommend it to others.
Perry wasn’t a character I liked very much. Her self esteem was entirely too low and the way she whined and kind of hated on anyone who had it together really bugged me. And she was immature in the worst way. She lived at home with her parents at 22 and didn’t really have a job anymore, so her parents getting on her case didn’t seem all that unfair to me. In my head, I was thinking grow up and move out if you don’t like their rules. On the other hand, she really let her parents discipline her and control her and I thought, you’re 22, grow up and stand up for yourself. She was like a little kid in BOTH ways. She thought her parents were unfair, even when they weren’t,  AND she didn’t stand up for herself when they really were. It drove me CRAZY. But she redeemed herself quite a bit in this book. And I felt better because I was not the only one who saw that she really needed to grow some balls. Dex and her sister were vocalizing what I was thinking and I liked that.
Seeing Perry grow up a little bit and finally take charge and not let other people run her life helped my opinion a lot. I also started to like Dex, too, and understand that he had his own issues. The development of the supernatural events on the island had a direct impact on the vibe between Dex and Perry. Only Perry saw the ghost of Mary and she warned her that Dex wouldn’t believe her until it was too late. With the ghost sightings and Dex’s own mental health, I think he wanted to pretend that maybe Perry was crazy and not gifted with the ability to see ghosts, so they had this whole dynamic going on around that whole issue. I liked the added drama.
The island was deliciously creepy. Getting the island was difficult for the two of them. It was secluded and the tides could leave someone stranded for a long time. The animals acted strange and the ghost sightings were perfectly timed and scary. A great example is when Perry saw a child running into the ocean, so she chased after her. Dex witnessed the whole thing and never saw the kid, so it looked like Perry just ran into the ocean to drown. It definitely sent chills down my spine.
I loved the paranormal story of the island and how it affected Perry and Dex. She grew a lot and seemed more confident towards the end, which I really needed to happen. I definitely recommend this installment of the Experiment in Terror series and it’s my favorite so far.
