My thoughts:
I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one probably was my favorite. The characters go through so much in this book and my heart aches for them when they go through some troubling times and my heart sings for joy when they go through joyous moments. I've always said about these books that the author does a fantastic job with showing the reader the flaws of the character and how they stand up and challenge themselves to overcome those challenges. This book has it in droves. It's like everything came to a head in this book and the characters do so much growing in this one book alone. It was heart wrenching at times, yet so joyous at times that I felt like these characters are my friends.
Helen struggles with her overbearing mother and her love for Charlie. She knows that her mother doesn't approve of Charlie, but she also knows that what they share is the real deal. She must put her heart first and suffer the consequences. Millie is devastated when her fiance is shipped out to Spain to cover the Civil War as part of his job as a reporter and when a fortune teller gives her news that could change how she looks at her relationship, she just can't get the negative thoughts out of her head. Dora has a rough time of it seeing her best friend married to the one man she has loved. When a secret threatens to ruin that marriage, Dora takes the high road and lets everything happen as it should.
This book was by far my favorite in this series and I thought I was going to stop at this book and return to the series later, but I just couldn't help myself. I snatched the next one for my Kindle and I am reading it right now. This author is a fantastic storyteller and the characters are something to cherished. I am honored to have the chance to read such a fantastic series and I really hope that the author continues to write about these fantastic women.
