Review – Sante Spa Cuisine: a Perfect Balance of Health, Flavours and Taste

By Rashmi Gopal Rao

The idea of eating out at a restaurant or cafe that serves ‘healthy food’ is often met with disapproval, at least in my house.  This is usually due to the fact that the mention of “healthy food” is synonymous with being “boring and bland”!  So, the whole purpose to “indulge” when eating out is defeated!

Well, Sante Spa Cuisine in Indiranagar, dismisses all these myths.  If you are looking for a place where you can gorge on delectable fare to your heart’s content without feeling guilty about binge eating, Sante Spa Cuisine is for you.  A vegetarian’s delight, this is a place where you can enjoy food made from the freshest and healthiest of ingredients (read no artificail colours, refined flours and sugar) without compromsing on the taste and flavor.  There are plenty of options for those prefering vegan, alkaline and jain fare too. Read on to find out more.

Decor and Ambience

In line with the theme of the restuarant, the decor is airy, open and inviting.  Housed within an old bungalow with distinct colonial and vintage vibes, the interiors are done in a color scheme of white and green.  Wooden furniture, wicker chairs and plenty of greens add to the warmth.  There is a children’s area, a reading nook as well as outdoor seating.  Here are some pics.

Potted plants, wooden blocks and indigenous cutlery add to the charm of the interiors.

Food

The menu is exhaustive and the selection is truly vast.  Right from farm fresh salads, homemade soups, home baked cookies, rustic grills and guilt free desserts, the menu offers it all.  The fare includes dishes like sweet potato pancakes, Barnyard millet and roasted peanut Kedgeree and several salads containing healthy ingredients like sauteed Kale, roasted beetroot and farm fresh organic vegetables.  Then there are things like homemade nachos, ragi pizza, multi grain rotis and whole wheat spaghetti.  So it is all about ingredients that are wholesome, healthy and unprocessed.

We tried the Black and white Moroccan hummus which is a Jain variety sans garlic.  Accompanied with ragi nachos, the hummus with the goodness of activated charcoal had all the flavours of the traditional variety complemented by the bell peppers, chick peas and herbs.

The Ibiza style Avocado salad as well as the Galouti of black beans were scrumptious and extremely flavourful.  The latter is sure to be any non-vegetarian’s delight!

Another interesting bit about the menu is the abundant use of hemp.  Try the appetizing Spinach mungo hemp chowder if you are game to try something different.  Even the Zucchini Zoodles in Hemp Pesto is a totally unique dish with delicious flavours.

We finished the delectable meal with a small portion of the Salted caramel Mudcake which was again a totally guilt free indulgence considering it was prepared without any refined flour or white sugar.
