Review: Out of the Blue, Dingle Ireland

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

Our second night on the road resulted in us stopping in the little harbor town of Dingle. I know, amazing name right?! Well, when putting a shout out on twitter the resounding answer of where to eat in Dingle was Out of the Blue, a harbourside Seafood Shack. I’m very glad I booked, as it seemed possibly the only decent place to eat in the town and was fully booked.

I liked the sign outside the door that said that they only sold fish, strictly no meat dishes at all – so if you don’t like it, don’t come in! All their fish is local, nothing shipped in from abroad, and as such, there is a daily changing backboard menu.

Whilst we were left to take in the blackboard some crusty bread and fresh smoked mackerel paté kept us going. We decided to share some oysters. Well Lee decided. I don’t really eat oysters, but did manage one. Lee liked them, although from the picture of him eating one you’d think he was being tortured.

We then both had a small bowl of lobster bisque with aioli. The was so hearty and delicious, with an extraordinarily deep rich flavor. Give me a bowl of this every Winters evening and I’d be a happy girl. We were beginning to see this was rustic no frills, but perfect fish cooking at its best.

I was obviously in a odd mood that night because I decided I really wanted to try some more of their starters, so instead of a main, I had two more. Firstly the Lemon and Olive Oil minute marinated salmon. Essentially this was almost like sashimi slices of of the freshest salmon cured with the addition of the lemon. Simple and delicious. I also really enjoyed the Gambas and Lime Skewer with mango salsa.

Whilst I was making my way through these Lee ordered the Chargrilled Whole Seabass with Lemon & Herb Butter. He loves eating fish on the bone and this seabass was simple but cooked really well.

I forgot to photograph dessert, but this isn’t any great loss. They didn’t live up to the standards of the fish, but we can forgive that when they do the fish that well!
