For three years we follow the lives of five published romance authors and one unpublished newbie as they build their businesses, find and lose loved ones, cope with a tsunami of change in publishing, and earn a living doing what they love-while empowering others to do the same. We watch romance authors and readers building communities and friendships that don't just exist on social media sites, blogs, and message boards, but also transition into the real world. We accompany authors on trips with their readers, at conferences and special romance events - and we see them encouraging their readers to become writers themselves.
During the three years that we shot Love Between the Covers, we witnessed the biggest power shift that has taken place in the publishing industry over the last 200 years. And it's the romance authors who are on the front lines, pioneering new ways to survive in this rapidly changing environment. -

As an avid romance reader, I loved the opening sequence with book covers as an introduction to the authors - great idea. Book covers have a huge importance, specially when it comes to romance (remember Fabio?). It's one of the symbols of the genre and can be the subject of pride or prejudice.
We got to see Lady Jane's Salon, a blink on Eloisa James's personal life, interviews with Beverly Jerkins, Radcliffe, Celeste Bradley, Susan Donovan, Joanne Lockyer, Kim Castillo and many others. It was great to see that the director chose to not only interview authors, it's so much bigger than them, you can realize that by watching the convention part.

Some of my favorite parts include authors going indie, talking about ebooks and Kim Castillo, the most famous author's assistant around! Her story was very unexpected, I thought the documentary would go another direction - it was touching and I think every romance reader can relate to her.
In the end I felt the importance of authors representing and incorporating the huge diversity of readers through their characters. Giving them a voice, being recognized, and to value that diference is everything. It reverberates on the different themes and sub genres. The romance community is a big group of women who support each other.
