'Another tangy slice of life--and death--from The New York Times bestselling author of Pecan Pies and Homicides...
Ella Mae LeFaye's Charmed Pie Shoppe has become a phenomenon beyond her wildest dreams, providing the enchanted town of Havenwood, Georgia, with spellbinding desserts and magical pies. Her personal life is also heating up as she takes on the responsibilities of leadership within her magical community. The only thing weighing her down is the prolonged absence of handsome Hugh Dylan...
Still, when Havenwood is rocked by a series of mysterious deaths, Ella Mae must put romantic longings aside--especially when she realizes that the mystical symbols left at each crime scene are dangerously personal. Now she will have to whip up all her supernatural skills to uncover a killer out to settle an ancient score--before the murderer devastates everything Ella Mae is determined to protect...'
My thoughts:
Last year I reviewed Pecan Pies and Homicides and found that book to be a little disappointing as it was very predictable. However, this book was better on that score and I didn't figure out the mystery early on. It was a little disappointing in the ending however. In my review for Pecan Pies and Homicides, I predicted that that book would lead to more interesting things occurring in this series. I was right. This book had a lot going on in and it was a pivotal book in this series. This book was a little different and it's hard to pinpoint how exactly I feel about it. I liked it, but I didn't love it and I am just a little confused as to the direction that the author intends to take the characters in the series from this point forward.
Ella Mae is baking her magical pies in the small town of Havenwood, Georgia. Of course, nothing is that simple and soon she is in the middle of a murder investigation. Not to mention having to deal with an enemy of the supernatural sort. She has to remain focused as so many people are relying and counting on her to see them through these tough times. Using the support of her family and friends, Ella Mae learns about what is important to her and her heart and this book takes the reader through a huge character development with Ella Mae.
As I stated before, I am not quite sure how I feel about this book. I was hugely disappointed in the ending and kind feel like lost. I am curious to see what happens next as this one ended quite strangely and I wonder how the author is going to play that moving forward in this series. I really did enjoy watching Ella Mae evolve in this book as a character, but I still feel like it was missing something. I think the next book will be quite the deciding factor for me as to whether or not I want to continue with this series. I fell in love with this series for two reasons. I don't want to go into detail because I feel like it might spoil the series for other readers. I just kind of feel that I lost one of the main things that made me enjoy this series in the first place and I'm pretty positive that might not be a good thing.
