Review: It’s BBQ Time with Stokes Sauces!

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

This month, Stokes Sauces commemorates  a fantastic 10 years of sauce making! To celebrate they are launching new products and gift packs later in the year having and fab promotions including the chance to win one of 10 Fire Pit BBQs.

For those who don’t know, Stokes was founded by Rick Sheepshanks back in 2004 and prides itself on honest, simple and delicious ‘real food’ sauces and condiments to compliment and enhance every meal.

To go alongside their 10th anniversary celebrations,  Stokes sent me one of their ‘BBQ Packs’ to try out, perfect for the weather we are having at the moment! The BBQ pack consists of a full-sized bottle of their Original Tomato Ketchup, Bloody Mary Ketchup and of course, their classic Barbecue Sauce.

I’ll start off with their original ketchup, with each bottle containing 196g of Italian tomatoes per 100g of sauce. This was perfect on our Hot Dogs with our BBQ and is a really rich tangy sauce, none of the plasticky artificial flavour you can get with some bottles.

On to the Bloody Mary Ketchup, and for some one who likes a kick to their sauce, I was looking forward to trying this one. Made with a splash or two of vodka and a dash of Worcestershire sauce it had a lovely fiery flavour. It was great to spice up a plain burger, but I think my favourite thing for this sauce will be on a Bacon & sausage buttie.

I was intrigued to try their BBQ sauce itself – I often don’t like BBQ sauces finding them too sickly sweet or too deeply smoky, but found this one to have a really good balance. And it was nice and thick as well. It was a good accompaniment to our barbecued chicken and I look forward to using this one a lot more.

Although having tried a few Stokes sauces before; the onion marmalade, real mayonnaise and brown sauce (all also delicious by the way) I wasn’t aware of just how big a range they did, and some of the more unusual things as well. Particularly the Steak Sauce, Fig Relish and Cider & Horseradish Mustard have caught my eye, and I’ll be looking out for these in a shop near me soon! Failing this, you can see the whole range on the Website – it’s really worth checking out, there are some great classic products and well as the more unusual and the collection packs – what better way to kick off your Stokes adventure.

As well as online, you can find Stokes products across Waitrose, Ocado and Booths stores as well as in many many Farmshops and Delis or on the table in your local restaurant.
