There once was a boy who loved stars so much that he wished he had one of his very own. Every night he watched the stars in the sky from his bedroom window and dreamed of how he could be their friend and how they could play hide-and-go-seek together.
So, one day, he decided to set about catching a star of his very own…How to Catch a Star - the world-renowned illustrator Oliver Jeffers’ debut picture book, released 10 years ago was a huge success and it won numerous awards. 10 years on we are now celebrating the much loved book with the release of the hardback gift edition. Out on the 27 March, How to Catch a Star is available from Amazon for £12.99
The words and the illustrations take you through an adventure on how to catch a star, through patience, and determination he does succeed, but not as expected.
This is a simple, but captivating book, the illustrations are truly stunning, very unique and they bring warmth to the story - and they captured Jacob's attention, as he had lots of questions about the pictures and linked the story to them as I read it to him. Jacob was immersed in the illustrations just as much as the words.
The ending is just perfect, Imaginative - inspired and like the rest of the book, simple but powerful at the same time, truly beautiful.
Both Jacob and Summer love this book, and I do too. The message I take from this story is to dream and reach out for the impossible - patience- determination - "reach for the stars" - you may not achieve your goal on the first attempt but if you are patient and keep trying you can achieve the impossible.
The story is aimed for children aged 2-7.Get involved in the celebrations:
