'The author of By Book or by Crook returns to the Outer Banks and the Lighthouse Library, where Lucy Richardson must shed light on a shocking murder...
Lucy has finally found her bliss as a librarian and resident of the Bodie Island Lighthouse. She loves walking on the beach, passing her evenings with the local book club, bonding with the library cat, Charles, and enjoying the attention of not one but two eligible men. But then her socialite mother, Suzanne, unexpectedly drops in, determined to move Lucy back to Boston--and reunite her with her ex-fiance.
To make matters worse, Suzanne picks a very public fight at the local hotel with her former classmate Karen Kivas. So, when Karen turns up dead outside the library, Suzanne is immediately at the top of the suspect list. Now Lucy must hunt down a dangerous killer--before the authorities throw the book at her poor mother...'
My thoughts:
I just started reading this book right on the tail of its predecessor By Book or by Crook and I am so glad that I did. I got to spend a little more time in coastal North Carolina at the Lighthouse Library. I really enjoy this series and cannot wait to read the next release Reading Up a Storm which is going to be released in April 2016. It seems such a long time to wait to return to this idyllic setting. This book was just as good as the first in the series and I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for the characters in the next book. This one ends with a little bit of a bang and I am curious to see what happens next.
Lucy Richardson has moved from Boston to a small coastal North Carolina town and has a job working in a lighthouse library. Her mother has flown down to visit with her and to try to coax her to return to Boston and back into the socialite circle. Of course, Lucy has no intentions of doing so and doesn't quite know how to tell her mother that. Lucy is trying to figure out the best way to tell her mother that she is not leaving when suddenly someone from her mother's past ends up dead. Everything shifts at that point because Lucy's mother is suspect number one. Lucy knows that her mother might not be perfect, even though she tries so hard to be, but she certainly knows that her mother is not a killer. Lucy must convince the authorities of this before her mother goes to prison for a long time.
I adore this series because the setting seems so divine. I love the thought of a library being in a lighthouse and that there is an apartment for Lucy to live at the top. That would be like my dream come true. Of course, that can't happen in my reality, so this is a nice way to live that dream. The author has created a good set of characters and a fantastic and ideal setting and it keeps me coming back for more. If you haven't read this series yet, then please do because it is a good one. Another fantastic book from the pen of Eva Gates.
