Initiated by Ateliers d'Art de France since 2013, Révélations is an international fine craft and creation exhibition acting as a meeting place for some of the most talented craftspeople in the world. The biennial reunites a constantly increasing and wide audience: collectors, architects, decorators, gallery owners, purchasing offices, in addition to artistic directors and luxury goods houses.
I was invited in May 2019 to visit Revelations at Grand Palais. The location itself is so iconic, I really loved it.
We had our VIP tickets to visit the night before the actual event and had nice one on one conversations with some of the artists and craftspeople at the show. We also enjoyed a lovely dinner at the venue.
The next day we are at the exhibition at around 10am, and we went around checking every single booth and interacting with the artists, the vibe was wonderful. There was nothing less than the highest standards. Most were using materials in ways I have not seen before. Being there makes you feel like everyone is an artist and that their sole job is to create gorgeous things.
At night we were invited by the lovely Dominique and met some of the artists and creators she represents in the Middle East.
In the slideshow below I put some of my favorite works.
The day after, we went around and visited galleries and pop up places that were collaborating with Revelations. The most prominent one was our visit to Artcurial. There we met Hubert Barrere, a very interesting designer, who is currently the Artistic Director of Maison Lesage (since 2011). He shared with us some history, his work with Karl Lagerfeld, and Givenchy among others.
Maison Lesage has been creating opulent embroidery requiring countless hours of work and exceptional skills for Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear and accessories since its creation in 1924. The company founded an embroidery school in 1992 that welcomes those who are passionate about embroidery from all over the world.
Lesage became part of CHANEL's Métiers d'art in 2002.
In this slideshow are some of the corset's created by Barrere for Chanel commemorating Greek Mythology.
The rest of the day was beautiful, we went to other galleries and got to mean some really talented people from around France. All of them shared some of their beautiful and latest work.
The trip was an amazing experience, very eye-opening. I loved every bit of it, I met many lovely people and enjoyed my time with them very much.
I would recommend it if you are an art lover and appreciate special techniques and designs.
