By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

When the warm days roll around, thoughts naturally turn to swimsuits. Let’s face it, choosing a swimsuit that really flatters is crucial to having an enjoyable time at the beach, yet the thought of choosing a new swimsuit can leave some ladies shuddering. Why? In recent years, many women have felt that their options were limited to bikinis, bikinis and oh yes, bikinis.

While a great looking bikini can be a wonderful choice for some women, some of us want to find a style that gives us a little more cover, and plays up our best features while minimizing problem areas. The good news is that there are wonderful options out there in suits that really flatter and beautify.

Go Retro!

Some of the classic styles of yesteryear are coming back in gorgeous designs that really flatter. A vintage swimsuit can be an incredible choice for women who love the classic styles of earlier eras. These swimsuits also offer an opportunity for accessorizing with other vintage style pieces, like tortoiseshell sunglasses, ankle strap sandals and vintage cover-ups.

What’s Your Era?

Lots of the retro looks we’re seeing in swimsuits hark back to the glamorous Hollywood era of the 1940s and 1950s. This style of vintage swimsuit tends to have a higher waist in the two-piece designs, and some have a halter style top, and feature little frills around the neckline and waist. These suits are cute as can be and look great with high-heeled sandals.

This two piece set from Urban Outfitters is perfect for slimmer figures, with the halterneck accentuating your bust and the pattern adding in some flirty intrigue – A must for any 50′s fan this year!

The One Piece

One-piece suits are definitely back, and there are many vintage inspired looks that are great for plus sized women. There are beautiful suits out there in bright colors with ruching on the edges and halter straps that play up the bust line. Plus size women will also love some of the very feminine styles in lacy long line tops with frilly, skirt style bottoms. These vintage styles just never lose their allure, and they are flattering as can be.

The 1960s are Back

The 1960s are back in swimwear, too, with many designs playing up the bold psychedelic patterns of the era. These suits are really made to be seen in, and are fun with brightly colored sunglasses and heels.
