Retired Bank Manager Arrested with Vallapatta Worth Rs.500 Mn

The Panadura Walana Central Anti-Corruption Task Force yesterday arrested a retired state bank manager with a Vallapatta stock worth around Rs.500 million.

Officials said the suspect had smuggled Vallapatta with his wife and two daughters in the car in white attire and carrying items needed for religious observances to mislead the Police.

This retired bank manager is a resident of Beruwala. According to the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Task Force, 50 kilos of Vallapatta was hidden in the trunk of his car.

According to the information received by Inspector Indika Weerasinghe, the OIC of the Task Force, that this retired bank officer was leading a racket of transporting Vallapatta, a team of officers including Inspector Janitha Kumara after following the car had placed a roadblock near the junction to Kalido Beach in Kalutara and had checked the car.

In the investigation, it has been found that two spies were riding ahead on two motorcycles to check if there were any roadblocks or other checkpoints ahead.

A senior Police officer said that the vehicle had no time to turn around due to the placement of an immediate roadblock.

Police say that the two daughters are in their 20s.The arrested suspect along with the car and Vallapatta have been handed over to the Kalutara North Police Station for further investigation.
