Renault has announced the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles in India. Currently, the demand for CNG powered passenger vehicles is increasing along with petrol-diesel vehicles and electric vehicles. So the French company is going to launch the CNG version of its popular multi-purpose vehicle Tribe.

Venkataram Mamillapalle, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and MD, Renault India, said, “We are developing alternative fuel based vehicles that can run on CNG or batteries. The first one could hit the market by the end of this year. However, he did not say anything about the launch period of the electric car.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala have strong markets for Renault diesel cars, he added. However, due to the dominance of electric vehicles and CNG fitted cars, their market is small in the north. As a result, his company is bringing CNG powered vehicles to power their land in North India.

According to Venkatram, CNG vehicles are in high demand in Gujarat, Haryana, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu and North Karnataka. The Triber will be the first car to be fitted with the CNG kit and will be manufactured at the Oragadam plant in Tamil Nadu. Incidentally, Renault has launched Night & Day editions of Kwid, Kiger and Triber in India to mark the festive season. These special edition models are priced at Rs 4.99 lakh, Rs 6.74 lakh and Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
