It was my first time in Ponte da Barca (District of Viana de Castelo) two weekends ago, and we arrived as the sun was making its way out. Thus, I didn’t see much, but I saw these reflections and that was enough to plant myself on the grass beside the river to soak in the summer atmosphere until it was time for dinner. It was a hot day and shade was still necessary for comfort under the trees which line this part of the riverside, where the grass was still soft and green. From this vantage point I had an unobstructed view of the bridge, the structure that gave the municipality its name.
The summer atmosphere was relaxing… to the point where I was nearly lulled off to sleep. Not to mention completely oblivious to the group of seasoned picnickers who packed up their things so efficiently that I didn’t even notice when they left.
We had dinner al fresco with Ice the Dog at a tasca nearby, played Padrón roulette, winced as Iceland was pummelled by France, and admired the floor.
Gotta love the long summer days.
In other news: at the risk of jinxing myself speaking too soon, there may or may not be a breakthrough in these website issues I’ve been having. Fingers crossed, the site is loading fast again, and hopefully I can get back to blogging instead of website repair.
