Making beauty out of suffering
As a Christian, a Minister and a human being, I am a great believer in recycling. I am not just talking about the put-the-bottle-in-the-bank-not-bin variety, but something far more profound. As I type this now, there is a small brass cup on the shelf before me fashioned from a shell casing – an instrument of death turned into a vessel for life. Time and time again over the past 26 years as a pastor I have seen that humanity is at its best when facing its worst. When we face the worst kind of illness or suffering we often plumb the crystal clear depths of human goodness in ways we never thought possible. For many people the illness, or death, of a child is the worst kind of suffering imaginable. Local charity, Momentum, see things differently. Like Terry Waite of old, they are ‘redeeming suffering’ and making it bearable – in so many ways. Take 5 minutes to watch this truly lovely video below and you will see what I mean.
