Real FX Slotless Racing Review

By Boxmash

Here’s a close look at the new Real FX racing toy that offers an experience similar to Scalextric but without having to stay in the same slot. It also looks quite similar to Anki Overdrive although the technology in play here is actually very different.

With both games retailing at $149.99 in the states you get more high end technology for your dollar from Anki Overdrive. The level of artificial intelligence and production value of the car and the apps is hard to beat. However, Real FX does offer a more traditional racing challenge that leans on player’s driving ability rather than quick video-game style reflexes.

Even with the extra expense of batteries, because Real FX  doesn’t require a smartphone to control the cars it is the more cost effective offering. Players will however need plenty of patience in setting up the fiddly track and learning to drive the cars.

For my family Anki Overdrive has seen much more play-time than Real FX. This possibly reflects our younger children (8-12) and the video-game crossover aspect.
