The first Ray-Ban aviator had green and anti-glare lenses and went on sale for the public in 1936. What is noticeable is that this pair had a plastic frame. 1937 was quite legendary as Ray-Ban trademark was registered and marketed with the release of a metal frame eye-wear. Within no time, these aviators became very popular among the likes of pilots, cops, hunters and basically all cool folks involved in some outdoor action. 1940’s saw the coming of gradient mirror lens that was mainly for commercial use as it featured a coating on the upper part of the lens for enhanced protection and no coating on the lower part for a clearer view. 1952 is the year that all wayfarers’ lovers should remember as that’s when Ray-Ban rolled out their first Wayfarer model. Undoubtedly all the fashion-forward people took note and the same started showing up in Hollywood flicks. And how can I ever miss out on the special year 1961, as that’s when Ray-Ban associated with Hollywood and added to the ever favorite Audrey Hepburn’s style in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’.
Dedicated to that pride here’s some of us who want to thank Ray-Ban for making simply awesome eyewear for 75 years. Happy Anniversary!
