The credit-card-sized single board computer, Raspberry Pi has received a significant upgrade, giving it six times more CPU power and twice the RAM, for the same price as its original board – $35 USD.
New Raspberry Pi 2 will be shipped with a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM with complete Raspberry Pi 1 compatibility. The new ARMv7 processor brings a lots of new possibilities for the tiny computer, allowing it to run any Linux distribution including Ubuntu, Linux Mint or even Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10.
In a special partnership with Microsoft, Raspberry Pi will offer the Maker community to grab Windows 10 for free, as a part of Microsoft’s Windows Developer Program for IoT (Internet of Things).
“We see the Maker community as an amazing source of innovation for smart, connected devices that represent the very foundation of the next wave of computing, and we’re excited to be a part of this community,” writes Kevin Dallas, General Manager, Windows IoT Group. “We are taking the next step by bringing Microsoft’s leading development tools, services, and ecosystem to the Raspberry Pi community for free through our Windows Developer Program for IoT.”

This free version of Windows 10 will be available later this year for installing on Raspberry Pi 2. Microsoft promises to share more information regarding the free Windows 10 and its Windows Developer Program for IoT in the near future.
