Ranuda Shines at Mahela – Sanga Trophy Match

Ranuda Somaratne stroked a superb knock of 91 with 5 fours and 3 sixes as Trinity scored 267 for 9 wickets at close in their under 19 Inter school cricket match for the Mahela- Sanga Challenge trophy played at Nalanda grounds Campbell Place yesterday. When the bad light stopped play with 11 over spare for the day Trinity last pair Manula Kularatne (29) and Dinuka Tennakoon (8) were at the wicket.

Trinitians were invited to bat first but openers Supun Waduge (4) and Viduka Dhammage(23) were unable to make a good start while Nalandian right arm medium paceman Lisura Sigera made an early breakthrough to depart Waduge in fifth over. The stylish left hander and experienced National youth cap Pawan Pathiraja was unable to make a good batting display scoring 12 runs in 47 balls with a four and his prized wicket took by off spinner Minod Caldera.

Ranuda Somaratne the National youth all rounder played a responsible innings scoring 91 in 127 balls also added superb 133 runs fifth wicket stand with Rahal Amarasinghe who scored a run a ball 75 with 12 fours and a six. Nalanda former Skipper and youth leggie Raveen de Silva was the most successful bowler taking 4 for 98 in his 20 over spell while paceman Lisura Sigera took 2 for 28.

Pasan scores unbeaten 109

Meanwhile Opener Pasan Suwahas made an unbeaten knock of 109 with 5 fours and 4 sixes in 192 balls as St. Benedict’s Kotahena scored 181 for 7 wickets at close against St Josephs in their inter school match started at Darley road yesterday. The game also halted ten overs to spare due to bad light.
