A bag containing jewelry worth over Rs. 5 million which had been accidentally left behind in a train running from Matara to Colombo Fort had been handed over to the owners by Railway security officials.
The jewelry belonging to Laksiri Sampath and his wife Hiruni Nimasha, residents of Katugastota Guhagoda, Kandy, was found by the Railway security officials while inspecting the train after it was brought to the Maligawatte railway yard following its run.
The couple from Kandy who were returning to Colombo from Matara had got off the train at Colombo Fort leaving the bag behind.
They said they were carrying several bags and they had forgotten the bag with the jewelry which was underneath their seat.
In addition to the jewellery, the bag had contained an Apple iPhone, a savings certificate for Rs.3.5 million, bank books, a car key and identity documents.
