Superior, Colorado resident James Daniel Kavanagh has been arrested by the Boulder County Drug Task Force for allegedly selling a variety of drugs and cultivating marijuana plants.

He is facing multiple felonies, including possession with intent to distribute several controlled substances including oxycodone, MDMA, alprazolam (Xanax), LSD, cocaine, diazepam (Valium) and methcathinone.

Kavanagh is also being charged with the illegal cultivation of more than 100 marijuana plants in his home.

He became person of interest after the Boulder County Drug Task Force had carried out a number of controlled buys beginning in January at his residence.

Events Leading to His Investigation and Arrest

According to Kavanagh's arrest affidavit, a search warrant was later executed in March at his home in Superior, Colorado where police found an illegal cultivation of marijuana spanning at least two rooms.

At the same time, two individuals were also found in the house but were later not linked to Kavanagh's alleged drug trafficking operation.

A total of 131 marijuana plants were seized and subsequently destroyed by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Kavanagh was not present during the raid since he had been arrested and detained after leaving his home prior to the search.

Once giving them consent, the police carried out a search to his Honda SUV he had been driving at that time.

They discovered $16,800 in cash and a variety of pills which included oxycodone, amphetamine, diazepam, MDMA, clonazepam and a half-pill of alprazolam stuffed in a snakeskin bag at the back of the car.

They also found a digital scale, a methamphetamine pipe, small amounts of LSD and cocaine, pre-packaged MDMA in a sprinkler head, plus mints and sugar cubes supposedly containing LSD.

The buyer involved in the controlled buys claimed to have seen a briefcase full of drugs which prompted the search, according to the affidavit.

The buyer further claimed that Kavanagh bought his drugs from the dark web which he resold to local customers.

The buyer also alleged that Kavanagh used cryptocurrencies to pay his suppliers via the dark web. The identity of the buyer is not known, nor is their relationship to the case.

It is also alleged that two more successful buys were executed by the police at Kavanagh's home after the search warrant.

Kavanagh is expected back in court for a preliminary hearing after he was released from Boulder County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

At the same time, a petition was filed back in September citing Kavanagh as a public nuisance, thus he was expected to appear for the citation hearing late last month.
