Quick Travel Guide: Temple of Heaven, Beijing

By Wanderingjoshua

The Temple of Heaven is a popular attraction while exploring Beijing. The temple is a huge complex with a park and ancient but well-maintained structures. It is a good place to stroll around in and learn more about the country's culture and history.

The temple complex was originally where the Ming and Qing Dynasties held the Heaven Worship Ceremony. It is a Chinese sacrificial building, and has undergone a number of reconstructions and enlargements over the centuries.

The grounds has a nice park where visitors can take leisurely strolls in after a long day exploring the city.

The temple complex has different sections you can visit, learn more about and explore.

The places I went to inside were the Altar of Prayer for Good Harvest, Imperial Vault of Heaven and the Circular Mound Altar.

Each section has a distinct use for the sacrificial and worship ceremonies. The area is normally crowded because the complex is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The garden is a nice place to sit down, relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city just outside its walls.

How to Get to the Temple of Heaven

I took the subway to get to the temple, it's easy, all you need to do is get on a Line 5 train and alight at Tiantan Dongmen Station. Take Exit A then once you get out, look for the East Gate.
