Let's change things up a bit. This time I'll share with you my rating for this film. I give Secrets in the Hot Spring (2018) a solid 10/10.
Secrets in the Hot Spring (2018)
Comedy, Horror | 12 July 2018 (Taiwan)
Director & Writer: Kuan-Hui Lin
First, I'm not entirely sure why in some websites the summary states that "Three youngsters meet by accident at a mysterious hot springs hotel". Based on the story, our three young male leads met in school. Two of those boys, Lu Qun and Little Princess are getting bullied in school while Xiao Gin the one with the blonde hair is a new student who accidentally saves them.
By the way, that is not Xiao Gin's first school. He has been having some problems that are hindering him from moving forward - both in school and life. But something happened that gave him enough courage to confront it. He decides to return to the hotel founded by his late parents which are currently run by his grandparents. On his way, the two classmates he saved Lu Qun and Little Princess follows and joins him.
Now that it's clear let me explain why I gave this a perfect score. Secrets in the Hot Spring (2018) is not an ambitious film. It knows what it is and thus, successfully executed and presented both the comedy and the horror elements without pretensions.
I'm sure you've seen comedy horror films that lean more on comedy and isn't scary at all. There are also films of the same genre that doesn't give justice to the comedy part. With Secrets in the Hot Spring (2018), you will truly get both the comedy and the horror of the story. And in the end, you will also receive a heartwarming story that completes the film experience.
You can catch Secrets in the Hot Spring (2018) on Netflix.
Happy viewing!
