Pure Bar & Adams Restaurant Collaberation

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

A few weeks ago, (well actually its over a month now because I’m so slow at managing to write up my blogs) along with some fellow foodies, the Out in Brum bloggers and Mr @Stegabyte and his lovely wife we excitedly headed up to Pure Bar & Kitchen to attend their collaboration with Michelin Starred Adam Stokes and his restaurant, Adams. This was for a 5 course tasting menu accompanied by matching beers (Pures speciality). It was a ghastly night weather wise, and we rushed in to join the others soaking wet, having had an umbrella failure a few streets away. Luckily the staff were on hand with a few tissues to pat us down and we were greated with some fantastic bread and a glass of Veltins Pilsner. Now I’m not really a beer drinker, although I do drink lager from time to time, but I really enjoyed this one, especially as it was served in a champagne glass!

Shortly after, our first course arrived; Pigs trotter, Bacon Jam and Apple. This really started off the meal as it meant to go on, and looking back was probably my favorite dish of the night. The Pigs trotters were flaked and deep fried and the flavor was out of this world. The apple was a fantastic sharp flavor cutting through the fattiness of the pork. This was complimented with a glass of Purity Mad Goose – a pale ale with a citrusy finish. It went really well and again, another beer that I liked!

The second course was Scallops, Cauliflower and Grapes with a Williams Bros Caesar Augsutus. This was such a delicate dish. Scallops and cauliflower are quite a classic combination, but the grape flavor with it was excellent.

Next up, Lamb Shank, Pickled Onions and Tomato with Nogne Imperial Brown Ale – a full bodied ale with malt and toffee notes (apparently), I wasn’t so keen on this ale, but then I know I’m not really an ale drinker so this isn’t any detriment to the beer itself – hubby loved it! The lamb was perfectly soft and tender, and this whole dish was just a perfect flavor and texture combination with the sharpness of the pickled onions, the cumin ash/dust, crunchy broccoli and creamy mash that came with it.

After this a little Buck Rarebit accompanied some Purtiy UBU ale – a sweet amber ale. This was one rich little bite with the egg yolk, cheese and truffle but boy was it good!

Pudding was an Apple and Blackberry Crumble, deconstructed of course, and an 8.4% Bosteels Tripel Karmeliet. The freshness of the apple sorbet was my favorite element of this –  I could have eaten a whole bowl on its own!

To finish off, we had some to die for  little Chocolate Brownies, with Ama Mora Espresso Porter – 9%. I hate coffee, so I can’t comment on this beer myself – but most people enjoyed it – I tried a sip and it tasted like cold fizzy expresso to me! I feel I have a lot to learn in the beer appreciation area! The brownies melted in your mouth, a proper indulgent way to end the meal.

This was an amazingly good meal, and really successful concept and collaboration – I think we all hope they do it again sometime soon!
