The American people are starting to accept the truth about Global Climate Change (i.e., global warming). About 68% currently believe that global warming is caused by human activity (the overuse & misuse of fossil fuels), 62% believe it is already happening, 45% now worry about it a great deal, and 42% believe it will be a threat to their way of life in their lifetime. Those numbers are all record highs since Gallup has been polling on the issue.
That tells me the public is concerned, and they want the government (in concert with other countries) to act to fix this serious problem.
Unfortunately, our current government (Trump, Tillerson, Pruitt, GOP Congress) does not agree. They still claim that scientists can't agree on whether global warming is happening or is man-made, and call the whole thing a hoax. They seriously think that it's more important to protect the oil, gas, and coal companies (and other corporate polluters) than to protect the planet.
That means we can expect our government to do NOTHING until at least 2021 (assuming the Democrats can regain power in that year). Even if the Democrats could successfully flip Congress in 2018, a Republican president would veto any global warming efforts they made.
Do we have four years before the tipping point is reached (the point at which government efforts would be too late to solve the problem)? I don't know. What I do know is that we're letting corporate greed control our government, and it's putting the entire planet in danger.
The charts above are from a recent Gallup Poll -- done between March 1st and 5th of a random national sample of 1,018 adults, with a 4 point margin of error.
