Donald Trump was counting on his trip to the G-20 summit to improve the public's perception of his foreign policy and show he can effectively deal with Russia. That didn't happen. If anything, doubts about both have increased by the poor way he handled himself on that trip.
As these charts show, a majority of Americans (52%) don't think Trump understands foreign policy, while only 36% believes he does. In addition, a plurality of 44% doesn't like the way he is handling Russia -- 10 points more than the 34% who think he is handling Russia in the correct way.
The collusion scandal of his campaign with Russia is still dogging his presidency (in spite of the fact that he calls it just a "witch hunt"). Fully half of the population (50%) say they are concerned about improper relations between Trump and Russia (while only 36% say they are not concerned.
These charts were made from information in a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between July 9th and 11th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,284 registered voters), with a margin of error of 3.1 points.
