Public Believes Race Relations Are Worse Under Trump

During the campaign (and after), Donald Trump claimed he was a "uniter", and would bring the races together in this country. I don't think anyone believed him, because the hallmark of his campaign was racism and religious bigotry. So, how has he done? Has he brought people together?
In a word -- NO! He has been the most bigoted and divisive president in the modern era. And his actions supporting the racist protesters in Charlottesville have just made that clearer.
The chart above shows what the public thinks. Note that every group (except Republicans) think race relations have gotten worse under Trump. Most Republicans think they have just stayed the same. Only a tiny 7% to 14% believe race relations have gotten better. Those have to be the true trumpistas, who refuse to believe anything has gotten worse under their hero (and facts be damned).
The chart reflects the results of a new Marist Poll -- done on August 14th and 15th of a random national sample of 1,125 adults, with a 2.9 point margin of error.
