Proud To Be An Indie Bride? You’ll Love These Unique Wedding Ideas

By Juliet Siu @Lacenruffles

Confession: I can spend all nights flipping through Pinboards on real weddings! Not only because they’re filled with lace, ruffles and sparkles that put a smile on my face. From the choice of dress to wedding songs, all these are reflections on the personality of the brides and grooms that make each wedding so unique. It’s the third wedding I attended this year, this time I was completely blown away by my girlfriend D who’s gone all creative with her big day. It was a retro beach themed wedding at the sun-filled poolside garden terrace at Bell City Melbourne – bridesmaids wore red polka dot playsuits with groomsmen in stripe retro swim shorts (the gents did tone up before the big day for sure!). It was one gorgeously adorable wedding and I felt instantly inspired by her wittiness – traditions be damned! Do you think you’ve got a bit of indie bride’s spirit too? I’ve rounded up these unique, whimsical wedding inspirations that will make you swoon…

Black Is The New White!

Stop whatever you’re doing and check out this romantic black lace veil from the fashion designer Gail Sorronda‘s big day! It’s totally convinced me that black is the new white.

The black themed wedding has got some spotlights since Sex and the City 2 launched a huge bridal jewellery trend when Mr. Big chose a large black diamond engagement ring for Carrie. But in real life we still don’t see a lot of Carrie rocking these charming black gemstone on the Fifth Avenue.

The grande dame of wedding dress design Vera Wang has again torn out the rule book of bridal style with her look on the 2014 New York bridal fashion runway. She presented an array of dramatic black wedding dresses, some are exquisitely sewn with lace, tulle and ruffles. The other line showcased some clean lines, minimalist style of sophisticated black and white gowns. I’m swooning over the pair of long black leather gloves that reminded me of a modern day Audrey Hepburn!

Dare to channel your inner vamp with a black wedding theme? It’s daring, it’s slightly Gothic and it’s dangerously romantic.

Camp It Like A Gypsy

If you have a gypsy soul, you’re sure to fall for this campout eco wedding idea. Set in a forest, woodland or national park, the vibe is jovial, wild and free-spirited. Having your guests camp overnight in the woods with campfire and live folk music means everyone can just dance the night away in barefoot without having to plan an after-party. Bridal bouquet and decorations? You’ve got all the wild floral and fauna around you to choose from. It’s intimate, peaceful with whispers of songbirds as the happy background tunes, what not to love? Just be prepared for those uninvited animal photobombers.

Get Flossy Like It’s A Carnival

What’s possibly sweeter than a bride’s smile on her big day? It’ll have to be a fairy floss bouquet! Love the idea of getting your bridesmaids and groomsmen carrying their fairy floss bouquets down the aisle as you make entrance – how adorable!  This is also a great alternative to floral for those of you lovelies who might be allergic to flowers, you certainly don’t want a big red nose as you exchange the vows. And you bridesmaids will surely love you for an edible bouquet!

Not into anything sugary? Rosette wheels also make gorgeous alternative to floral bouquets with a hint of whimsical carnival vibe. Best news of all, it takes no time to make your own! Check out this video tutorial here.

More To Love… The Power Suit

Since the day I tried on the 80s Yves Saint Laurent women’s tie from my mum’s wardrobe, I got seriously obsessed with women in suits and ties. A sleek and sophisticated wedding pant suit? I’ve got my jaw-dropped! I haven’t seen any real life brides in pant suit yet so you’ll turn some heads for sure walking down the aisle like you’re on the couture show catwalk. I think they possess some forms of superhero-like power, don’t you agree? Well, the superwoman cape in this insanely classy Elie Saab piece kind of explains all.

So tell me fellow dolly, do you see yourself as an indie bride who balks at traditions of any kind? Would you consider going for any of these uniquely daring wedding ideas? Have you come across any other non-traditional wedding themes that have inspired you?

Until next stay, stay uniquely you.
