With all the cooking that's going on during this time of the year, I bet there is always extra food to store. My review today is on Ozeri's Green Earth Food Storage Containers Nesting Set with Vacuum Seal and Locking Lids. This set consists of four boxes measuring - 5.0 Qt, 3.2 Qt, 1.6 Qt, 0.7 Qt - giving you options to store large to small quantities of cooked or raw food.
The key to keeping food fresh longer is by removing excess air, so the growth of naturally occurring bacteria is reduced. The only way to do is pumping the extra air out after closing the box. These boxes come with a valve system called INSTAVAC - you would have to simply press down on the center of the lid and air inside will be forced out the one-way valve. I tested this feature by storing fresh produce like berries and lettuce in these boxes in my refrigerator for up to five days. Both stayed fresh - berries did not shrink and lettuce did not loose its crispness. The lids and valve are quite sturdy and don't see any of these breaking. But, I'm not sure if the valves will last for too long if tossed in a dishwasher. It's easy to rinse the containers under the sink because they are stain-free. I don't like to microwave food in plastic - therefore, will not be heating food in these boxes in a microwave. Well, I think this set has a ton of features.
