Matale police say 45 schoolgirls of Matale Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya were admitted to hospital yesterday after they developed dizziness and breathing difficulties. During the morning meeting of the college some students had fainted and some had difficulty in breathing.
The teachers then had taken steps to admit the students to the hospital. A large number of students who showed such symptoms had participated in a volleyball tournament held in Wennappuwa recently.
Some of those students had fever and developed breathing difficulties parents said.
Matale district general hospital director Y.M.S.Yapa said 45 students between the ages of 12 and 15 were admitted to the hospital and their condition was not serious. Matale Police have launched a probe with assistance of health authorities.
