A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday had visited the prison to further question Thilini Priyamali, who is in remand custody for alleged financial frauds involving several billions of rupees.
A senior officer of the Criminal Investigation Department said that the questioning was in relation to the facts revealed in the investigations so far. The officer said that very important and controversial information which was not revealed when Thilini Priyamali was arrested is now coming to the fore.
The investigating officers of the Criminal Investigation Department questioned her for about four hours from 10 am to 2.00 pm and sources said CID will question her another day in the future. CID sources revealed that in this investigation, information was also revealed about several politicians who persuaded businessmen to invest money in Thilini Priyamali’s company. It is stated that those politicians had also given money to Thilini Priyamali and Thilini had duly returned the original amount to those politicians with more interest than she promised.
Because of that, the politicians have promoted Thilini Priyamali’s business, sources said.
