According to the mobile phone conversations, it has been revealed that the Executive Director of the KRRISH Group Janaki Siriwardena has directly involved with Thilini Priyamali who is under remand custody over charges of the misappropriation of funds received from businessmen”, the Criminal Investigations Department informed.
The CID made this remarks after producing Janaki Siriwardena before Colombo Additional Magistrate Shilani Perera.
The suspect has been remanded till November 16.
Janaki Siriwardena, a well-known business personality, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday (4), in connection with the alleged case against the multi-billion rupee financial fraud.
The CID further stated that Tilini Priyamali’s financial transactions had taken place in the KRISH building in Colombo Fort and her company received money from India as well. “Investigations have also revealed that the company has not received money from India in the recent past. The employees of her company have been paid more than Rs.5 million as their monthly salary and it is necessary to find out how the company got this money”, the CID added.
President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis appearing on behalf of the suspect told the Magistrate that the media is acting against his client. He further said that the media should not be allowed in this regard.
Attorney Ashan Nanayakkara appearing on behalf of the witnesses stated that journalists who reveal exact information should not be shot.
The Additional Magistrate observed that by granting bail to Janaki Siriwardena, the witnesses may be influenced at this moment.
The CID also pointed out that Janaki Siriwardena had persuaded businessmen to invest Rs.226 million with Thilini Priyamali and get more benefits from it.
Also, the Criminal Investigation Department informed court that about Rs.80 million of the money received by Thilini Priyamali was given to Janaki Siriwardena at the office of KRISH Group. Investigations have further revealed that an amount of Rs.80 million and Rs.55 million had been given to another two persons as well.
The CID also noted that Rs.80 million of the said money was given to a ‘Kattadiya’ for rituals and the money given by Thilini Priyamali was also used by Janaki Siriwardena for her personal use.
The Criminal Investigation Department requested the court not to detain Thilini Priyamali and Janaki Siriwardena in the same prison and the court rejected their request.
