Principal Brutally Beat Students in Front of Police

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) reported facts before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that a statement has been recorded from Inspector R. P. Samarasinghe with regard to an incident where Grade 5 students from a school in Millaniya were brutally beaten for allegedly stealing money from a school teacher.

The IP mentioned in his statement that police did not attack the said students and said the principal had brutally beaten the students in front of the police at that time.

The National Child Protection Authority produced five suspects before court Tuesday (8). The five suspects were questioned for more than five hours and were later produced to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, the Teacher and the Police Constable who were also accused over the incident were released on bail. The Child Protection Authority had reported facts to court alleging that the teacher had handed over nine children to the principal regarding the loss of the class teacher’s wallet. Later the students were handed over to the police.

Three Grade 5 students from the Millaniya Primary School in Horana were accused of stealing money from the bag of a school teacher and were punished by the school teacher and principal.

Meanwhile, two Police officers and a school principal who were arrested for torturing grade five students at the Millaniya Primary School in Horana were ordered to be remanded till November 16 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera.
