Earlier this month, when Prince Charles virtually opened a new temporary hospital to care for COVID-19 patients, he shared a look inside his workspace at Birkhall, his Scottish house on the Balmoral estate. This backstage photo gave a glimpse of a new portrait of Prince Louis, although we didn't know it at the time.

In the image below, above Prince Charles ' left shoulder is a photo of the Prince of Wales hugging a young child, but it was unclear who the toddler was.

Today, Prince Charles published this same image with a birthday message for his third grandson, Prince Louis, who is two years old today.

"A very happy birthday to Prince Louis, who is two years old today. The young prince is enjoying a hug from his grandfather, the Prince of Wales," the note reads.

The sweet photo of grandfather love was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge during what appears to be an informal family reunion, given Prince Charles' short-sleeved shirt.

Kate, who is a skilled amateur photographer, is often recognized for taking portraits of her children which are published on birthdays, the first day of school, and other special occasions.

For Louis' second birthday, for example, Kensington Palace also shared a series of photographs taken earlier this month at Anmer Hall, where the Cambridges are presumed to outpace society during the coronavirus crisis. The candid shots show Louis with a big smile, his fingers covered in paint from a Pinterest-y art project.
