As the BFI London Film Festival starts tonight I thought it would be a good idea to put a post together to preview some of the films that will be making an appearance at the festival and the different Gala/UK Premiere’s happening over the next 11 days. It really is a fantastic event that takes over the many cinemas in Leicester Square with plenty of star acting power in attendance.
A United Kingdom
Starring Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo in the interracial romantic drama that shook the world in the 1940s.
Free Fire
Starring Brie Larson and Cillian Murphy, with the story around criminals meeting to complete an arms deal that does not go exactly to plan.
Lion
Starring Dev Patel, Rooney Mar and Nicole Kidman, a young man travels back to his home land of India to track down the family he lost when he was 5 years old.
Arrival
Starring Amy Adams, having to deal with a mysterious space craft which touches down and possibly going to start a global war a linguist must led an elite team to prevent it happening.
La La Land
Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, in this American romantic drama/comedy musical as lovers who are tested when the decisions they make to be successful might just impact on their love affair. Who hasn’t heard of this film, has been doing the rounds and picking up awards at different film festivals.
Manchester by the Sea
Staring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, a man must return to his home town in order to be the guardian for his teenage nephew and revisit his past mistakes including his marriage breakdown.
A Monster Calls
Starring Liam Neeson and Lewis MacDougall, an accident tree monster takes a 12 year old boy on a journey of courage, faith and truth. I have heard quite a lot of buzz around this film in the build up to the film festival.
Nocturnal Animals
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams, lives will be turned upside down when a book is about to force a woman to confront dark moments in her past as she tries to live happily with her second husband.
Queen of Katwe
Starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o, and Madina Nalwanga. A young girl is given a chance to escape poverty thanks to a missionary’s work in the slum that she is currently living in.
Snowden
Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, when a man leaves his job with a top intelligence agency he vows to reveal that information is being stolen from well pretty much everyone. This then makes him a target when he is branded a traitor.
Their Finest
Starring film Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin, Bill Nighy, Jack Huston, and Jake Lacy. Set during World War II about filmmakers trying to make a patriotic film about the Blitz.
