The fascination and allure of women's charisma and ways have been mused about in last year's fulminant alt-rock stomper 'Crowdstopper', and though Kevin Morgan is back at admiring and coaxing a dame worth desiring, the listener finds something less ardently adamant while he follows the course of narration and musical path laid out in 'The Things I Do'. Its delightfully perky ease - opposed to the nonchalant swagger of the singer/songwriter's previous release - is striking; it's one ever appealing, supported by joyful harmonies and uplifting melodies. Complemented by a dreamy, blissful tone as centerpiece, the song soon is stirred up by vivaciously buoyant rhythms; this and Morgan's timbre, transitioning from crisp and brisk to sometimes passionately yearning, sometimes wistfully tender, showcase its tonal progress and altered mood splendidly, both palpable on a lyrical level as well. Whereas the wish to wooa former lover once more prevails in the beginning, it makes way for a staggering realization at last, melodically heralded by deep-toned bass gravity and gripping vocal vehemence early on; though asking for a second chance, remembering all the good things the relationship brought about, the song's narrator has always invested more than the woman he desired, admired, loved. With this conclusion and the determination to move on, 'The Things I Do' closes on high note for the emotionally involved man, whistles merrily to what hopefully will be a happy ending, more likely even a happy new beginning. One thing's for sure already though, carpe carmina will be happily listening each time the single starts playing again.
