Panaji: Sawant Pramod is on Monday unanimously choosing the leader of the BJP legislative party in Goa, opening the way for him to take over as the main minister.
The name Mr Sawant for the top post was cleaned at the newly elected MLA BJP meeting and the senior party leaders in Panaji at night.
The meeting was also attended by BJP Central Observer Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan, polling the Devendra Fadnavis countermeases and party units of the party, Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
“It was decided that Dr. Pramod Sawant would be the leader of the house,” Tomar told reporters after the meeting.
Mr Tomar said Mla Vishwajit Rane proposed the name Sawant as the leader of the BJP legislative party. The proposal was seconded by other MLA, including Mauvin Godinho and Rohan Khaunte.
Mr. Tomar said the election of Mr Sawant was round.
Speaking with reporters here soon after being elected the leader of the BJP legislative party, giving him the second term as the main minister, Pramod Sawant said the creation of adequate infrastructure and human development would be the focus area of the state government in the next five years.
He said his outgoing government had succeeded in implementing ‘Swayampurna Goa 1.0’ and the second version would be executed stronger.
“Swayampurna Goa is an extension of the Aatmanirbhar Scheme Bharat Prime Minister Modi which will be implemented throughout the state by pushing in independence,” he said.
Under this program, a state government officer was appointed as ‘Swayampurna partner’ who visited Pancrayat or appointed municipalities, interacted with people, coordinating with many departments and ensuring that the benefits of various welfare schemes achieved targeted populations.
He said he would bring non-BJP legislators who had extended their support to the new government.
“We will work with full transparency with the confidence of the parties who have extended their support to the government. We will all work together,” he said.
