I wrote about the Potager du Roi, the kitchen garden of the king at Versailles, on Monday with photos: Potager du Roi, Versailles, France. But I forgot to mention something that the Weekend Cooking crowd will want to know. What happens to all the food?
All that fresh produce, including lots of fruit from those amazing espaliered and shaped trees, is sold at the little entrance shop. The proceeds provide a significant source of income to support the work of the Potager du Roi (the official website is in French, but Google translate does a reasonable job on it). So, the next time you’re in Versailles during peach or apple season, you know where to shop!
