In the middle of our trip to the island of Madeira, we took a day trip to the second, smaller island of Porto Santo, which was a nostalgia tour for Paulo and a first-timer tour for me. We brought the rental car on the ferry from Madeira, which gave us a chance to zip around the island and explore. Once home to Christopher Columbus, the island is but a speck on most maps: 14km long and 7km wide, 42.17 square kilometres (16 square miles) in total. Porto Santo has only a few roads but what it does have, however, is a nine-kilometre sandy beach and less rain than Madeira because it’s flatter.
We had the best weather of the whole trip while visiting Porto Santo, which made it tough to narrow down the collection for this postcard post. It was a color explosion!
