Postcards From Marvão Castle, Portugal

It goes without saying that Portugal has many castles and fortresses, as is to be expected from a country with such a long history. Some of the most dramatic Portuguese defensive structures can be found near the eastern border to Spain, and Marvão is one of the best examples of what you’d expect a strategic fortress to look like from a distance: high and imposing. Perched in the Serra de São MamedeMarvão has a (prehistorically) long history which you can read about in the links below. This being a postcard-style post, it’s all about the photos and, in this case, the views.
