Cyclonic Storm Nilam, originated from an area of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal on October 28,2012 - the system began as a weak depression, gradually intensified into a deep depression, and subsequently a Cyclonic Storm threatening Chennai but made landfall near Mahabalipuram as a strong Cyclonic Storm with peak winds of 85 kmph (50 mph) ……… fortunately, it did not devastate the city of Chennai, it brought to shore a tanker vessel - MT Pratibha Cauvery that ran aground ~ and soon there were huge crowds witnessing a ship at close quarters !!the ship, lighthouse and road leading to foreshore estateFerdinand Porsche was an automotive engineer and founder of the Porsche car company. He is best known for creating the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle (Lohner-Porsche), the Volkswagen Beetle, the Mercedes-Benz SS/SSK, and several Porsche automobiles. Porsche was an important contributor to the German war effort during World War II. He was involved in the production of advanced tanks; he was a member of the German Nazi party and the SS. In 1996, Porsche was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and in 1999 posthumously won the award of Car Engineer of the Century.
Cyclone Nilam brought ‘MT Pratibha Cauvery’ closer to the land …it was agrounded nearer Foreshore Estate, the continuation of stretch of Marina beach after Gandhi beach / Lighthouse… the Kamarajar Salai aka Beach Road narrows at this stretch and often vehicles are diverted in the inner lane leading to Foreshore Estate, where one wades through fish stalls….there are slum tenements over here… and on a Saturday evening, had to move slowly as there are too many speed- breakers too here….
Not gelling with the surrounding were many cars…. Chennai offers rich diversity…….. more rich and widening gap…. On roads one gets to see so many cars, most luxurious ones, and most of the foreign brands on road on metropolis. Have seen in recent times – Audi, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Bentley, BMW, Volkswagen and more….. and Saturday [1stFeb 14] added one more to that list ……
Porsche Automobil Holding SE, usually shortened to Porsche is a German holding company with investments in the automotive industry. Porsche SE is headquartered in Zuffenhausen, a city district of Stuttgart. The company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche. One of the first assignments the new company received was from the German government to design a car for the people, that is a "Volkswagen". This resulted in the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most successful car designs of all time. During World War II, Volkswagen production turned to the military version of the Volkswagen Beetle, the Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen.
Like its tall competitors, Porsche too has a special logo – the coat of arms of the Free People's State of Württemberg.
The heraldic symbols were combined with the texts "Porsche" and "Stuttgart", which shows that it is not a coat of arms since heraldic achievements never spell out the name of the armiger nor the armigers home town in the shield. Here are a couple photos of Porsche Cayenne seen on that day… a web search reveals – the model costs anywhere between Rs.70 lakhs to 1.58 crores + depending on the version.
