Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) is a popular holiday that is celebrated in China at the turn of their calendar. Each year they have a wide variety of festivities and spend quality time with the family. The holiday shifts from year to year, depending on when the lunar calendar falls during January 20th to February 20th. The Chinese calendar is based upon the Chinese Zodiac, which is consists of 12 different animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.
Many families come together for New Years Dinner so that they can spend time together. This dinner is considered to be the most important meal of the year and it is referred to as the reunion dinner. Families come together to eat dinner and enjoy time together as a family. Depending on where they live, they have festivities such as setting off fireworks, ancestral worship, dragon dances and a variety of other celebrations.
