Toronto: The Opera House – SOLD OUT

Thanks to Poor Young Things we were front row for the sold out “The Contender Tour” on Saturday night at The Opera House. One of my favorite Toronto music venues, there’s something very special about this place. The 100+ year old building holds just under 1000 people and on Saturday it was packed to the rafters! The energy was palpable. The mood was upbeat and positive and it continued to build throughout the night. This was one of the friendliest crowds I’ve encountered in some time.

Up first, Poor Young Things didn’t waste any time getting things going. Playing songs from their current release “Force of Nature” as well as  “The Heart. The Head. The End” and a rousing rendition of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” they certainly stirred up the crowd.

Amazing energy, friendly and engaged, I couldn’t stop smiling. As promised we’ve got a contest! We’ll be giving away a copy of Poor Young Things “Force of Nature” and a $25 HMV Gift Certificate! Check the contest tool below for all the “how to enter” details.

I can’t end this post without talking about Northcote and of course the tour headliner The Glorious Sons. Northcote, who I’d seen at TURF this year, came out after PYT and played a mix of thoughtful slower songs as well as a some really hard hitting rock and roll. They’re definitely a band I’ve got on my “Who to See Live” list.

The Glorious Sons… wow! I’d never seen this band live before and they blew me away. The connection they have with their fans is spectacular. The interaction between Brett Emmons and the crowd makes me smile. They finished up the set with their hit “White Noise” and then brought everyone back on stage for an all in performance of The Beatles “Don’t Let Me Down”. I can assure you, nobody felt let down.

I have no doubts about why this show was sold out, my only question is why aren’t all of the tour dates sold out?! And in case you were wondering, Rock and Roll is alive and well in Canada.
