Secretary of State “had a videoconference yesterday with the Taliban's number two and chief negotiator, Mullah (Abdul Ghani) Baradar, to discuss the implementation of the agreement between the United States and the Taliban, “said US diplomacy spokesman Morgan Ortagus.

M. Pompeo “made it clear to the Taliban that they were expected to live up to their commitments, including not to attack the Americans,” she said in a statement.

In Kabul, the Taliban announced that they had renewed their commitment to respect the agreement signed at the end of February with the United States, which aims at the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in exchange in particular for the start of a peace dialog interafghan, during this interview with Mr. Pompeo.

The New York Times , followed by the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal , reported this week After Russian agents distributed money to fighters “close to the Taliban” to kill American or NATO soldiers in Afghanistan.

According to these newspapers, which are based on anonymous sources within American intelligence, the information was transmitted to Donald Trump, and the National Security Council of the White House discussed it in late March without that no action be taken.

Russia and the Taliban have denied this information altogether.
