Polonnaruwa Police are investigating a theft of cash and jewelry worth more than Rs.10 million from the house of businessman Kapila Gamini Sirisena, a brother of former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Kapila Gamini Sirisena had complained to the Police on Sunday about the theft that took place at his house in Polonnaruwa.

According to Sirisena’s complaint to the Police, there is a gold ring embedded with a blue sapphire among the stolen property.

Apart from that, the Police say that the complaint shows that 5,000 US dollars and Rs. 100,000 were also stolen. The Police suspect an employee who worked as a guard for Sirisena may have committed the theft.

The employee is a resident of Beliatta Gatamane. Police say that the complainant Sirisena had said that the employee had resigned on May 1 and it is suspected that the theft was committed before his resignation.
